Privacy Policy

The short version: MomGist exists to lift the mental load off parents, not to harvest data. We collect what we need to remind you about the right things at the right time, and nothing else. We don't sell your information. We only look forward — once a date has passed, we delete it. And we tell you plainly when money is involved.

Who we are

MomGist ("we," "us," "our") provides an iPhone app and a website at mom-gist.com that helps parents keep track of birthdays, school dates, and the things that need buying — and suggests products through third-party retailers. This policy explains what information we handle and how.

What we collect

Your account

Your first name and email address. Your email is your login.
Your phone number — optional. Only if you choose to give it, and only so we can text you reminders. You can add or remove it any time in Setup.
Your password, stored as a one-way cryptographic hash with a value unique to you. We cannot read your password, and neither can anyone who obtained our records.

Your family

Each child's first name, date of birth, and gender, so we know when the birthday is and roughly what to suggest.
Optional details you may add — clothing size, shoe size, favourite colours, and style — so suggestions actually fit.
The people and holidays you choose to be reminded about.
Events you save — title, date, time, place, and any notes.

Things you photograph or forward

Photos and PDFs you choose to scan — invitations, school calendars, newsletters, supply lists.
Emails you choose to forward to your private MomGist address. We never connect to your inbox and we cannot see it. We only ever receive the individual messages you forward to us.

Your calendar

Your calendar never reaches our servers. When you connect Apple Calendar, MomGist reads it entirely on your phone. Nothing from it is transmitted to us, and nothing from it is stored in your account. If you connect Google Calendar, upcoming events are fetched to show you your list, and are not retained after that.

MomGist asks permission to read your calendar so it can spot birthdays, parties, school dates and trips, and remind you what to buy while there's still time. Access is read-only. MomGist cannot add, change, or delete anything in your calendar.

If you label an event, we keep the label — not the event. You can tell MomGist that something in your calendar is for a particular child, so it shows up in their colour. What we save is a reference to that event and the child's first name. Not the title, not the date, not the place. Anyone who somehow saw it would learn that some unreadable reference belongs to "Mel", and nothing else.

You choose which calendars we read. Many families keep a shared "Family" calendar alongside a personal one, and school dates and parties usually live there. When you connect Google Calendar, MomGist shows you your calendars and you tick the ones it should watch. Anything you don't tick is never read.

We look forward, not back — we read what's still ahead so we can help with it. Events stay on your phone unless you tap "Add" to save one to your MomGist list, at which point it becomes an event you've chosen to keep. You can disconnect your calendar at any time in Setup, or revoke permission in your phone's own Settings.

Sending your dates to your other calendars

You decide what travels, and you can switch it off at any time. MomGist can give you a private link that your Google, Apple, Outlook or Skylight calendar subscribes to, so your MomGist dates appear there automatically.

This is optional and off until you ask for it. When you do, here's exactly what happens:

You choose which kinds of date are included — parties, school dates, school and activity emails, appointments, trips, anything else. Untick a category and it stops being shared.
Reminders about clinical email are excluded unless you turn them on. If you do turn them on, they appear only as "Something to read — check MomGist", with no name and no detail. A calendar on a kitchen wall never announces who sent you something.
The link is a secret, like a password. Anyone who has it can see the dates you've chosen to include. Only share it with people you'd want seeing them.
You can retire it whenever you like. Getting a new link stops the old one working immediately, everywhere it's been used.
Once a date is in your own calendar, it belongs to you and your calendar provider — if you later remove MomGist, what's already there stays with them, under their rules.

How long we keep things

We only look forward. Once a date has passed:

It disappears from your list the following day.
It is deleted from our records the next day. We don't keep a history of your family's year.
Reminders to read something a therapist or nurse sent are deleted after two days.

We don't keep a history of your family's year. Your children's profiles and preferences are kept while your account is open, because they're what makes the suggestions useful — and they go the moment you delete your account.

Health and therapy information

We deliberately do not store this. If you photograph something from a therapist, specialist, school nurse or counsellor, MomGist recognises it and does not extract or save the clinical content. It creates a simple reminder to read the original document yourself. Their words, not our summary of them.

The image is processed to work out that it is health-related, and then only that reminder is kept. We do not retain the image, and we do not store medical, therapy, diagnosis, medication, or special-education details about your child.

Where your information lives

MomGist keeps a copy of your family list on your device, and a copy in your account, so your family is still there when you get a new phone, clear your browser, or reinstall the app.

What is saved to your account: your kids' profiles, your saved events, your holidays and people, and what you've ticked off. What is not saved to your account: anything read from your calendar.

How we use it

To remind you about what's coming, in time to do something about it.
To read invitations, calendars and supply lists you photograph, and turn them into dates on your list.
To suggest products that fit your children's actual ages and sizes.
To send you account emails, such as a password reset.
To respond when you contact us.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use it to build advertising profiles. MomGist contains no advertising.

Artificial intelligence

Some features use AI to read what you send us and turn it into dates and suggestions. When you use one, only the thing you chose — the photo you picked, or what you're shopping for — is sent securely to our AI provider, processed, and returned to you. It is not used to train AI models, and it is not used to build a profile of you. Nothing else about you goes with it.

Google user data — Limited Use

MomGist's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

In plain terms: we do not use, transfer, or sell Google user data — raw, aggregated, or derived — to create, train, or improve any machine learning or artificial intelligence model, whether our own or anyone else's.

Your Google Calendar events are read only to show you what's coming up in MomGist. They are not stored on our servers, not sent to Anthropic or any other AI service, and not used for advertising, profiling, or model training. The AI features described above operate only on photos and requests you submit directly — never on your calendar.

Who we share information with

Running MomGist means using a few outside services. We keep the list short on purpose, and each one receives only what it needs — never your whole account.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of people using MomGist.

Children's information

MomGist is for parents, not children. It is not directed at children and we do not knowingly allow anyone under 13 to create an account. Details about a child are entered by their parent, and we ask for the minimum that makes reminders useful — a first name, a birthday, and optionally clothing sizes. We do not collect a child's contact details, location, photographs, or any persistent identifier. If you believe a child has given us information directly, email us and we will delete it.

Shopping links and how MomGist stays free

MomGist suggests products from third-party retailers such as Amazon, Target, and others. When you tap a shopping link and buy something, the retailer may pay us a small commission — at no additional cost to you. This is how MomGist stays free. Our suggestions are based on your children and your calendar, never on which retailer pays us most.

As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.

When you tap a retailer link you leave MomGist, and that retailer's own privacy policy and terms apply. We don't control how they collect or use your information, so it's worth reviewing their policies. See our Affiliate Disclosure for more.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses privacy-friendly analytics that count visits without cookies and without tracking individuals across other sites. Retailers and affiliate networks may set their own cookies to credit a purchase you make after tapping their link. You can control cookies in your browser settings.

Your choices and your rights

Edit or remove anything — kids, events, holidays — at any time in Setup.
Clear your family list without closing your account, in Setup.
Delete your account entirely, from inside the app: Setup → Delete my account. This permanently removes your login, your family list, your saved events, your MomGist email address and anything forwarded to it, and any calendar authorisations. It requires your password, and it cannot be undone.
Disconnect your calendar at any time in Setup, or revoke access in your phone's Settings.
Stop texts by removing your phone number in Setup, or by replying STOP.

Depending on where you live — for example California, Colorado, Virginia, or the EU and UK — you may have additional rights to access, correct, port, or delete your information, and to object to certain processing. Email us and we will help. We will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.

Security

Connections to MomGist are encrypted. Passwords are stored only as salted one-way hashes. We limit what we collect in the first place, and we delete what we no longer need. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously.

Where information is processed

MomGist is operated from the United States, and the services listed above may process information in the United States and elsewhere. If you use MomGist from outside the US, you understand that your information will be processed there.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as MomGist grows. When we make a meaningful change we'll update the date at the top and, where it matters, tell you in the app.
